We have to RS/6000 systems, both with 2 NIC cards.
The first NIC, en0 is working just fine on both systems.

We want to activate the 2nd NIC, utilizing a cross-over CAT-5 cable to transfer files only between the two NIC cards and not broadcast over the entire network. It is a small LAN.
The primary IP's are 182.5.199.100 & 182.5.199.101

We are trying to use 192.168.1.1 & 192.168.1.2 on both machines, en1.
We have updated the /etc/hosts file, entered the information in 'NETWORK INTERFACES' and "MINIMUM CONFIGURATION & STARTUP".

What have we missed.

Thanks.

You missed the handshaking and the speed of the 2 adapters ... you must be in autonegociate ... (auto is not always ... efficient, one side has to be fixed)

try "smitty ethernet", and change the speed to a fixed one !

Have fun !

)

ipforwarding on? no -o ipforwarding=1

route? smit mkroute

default gateway? set?
