I want to purchase a new printer, and need to know if drivers are available for Linux...

Two of the models I'm considering are:

HP PSC 750

HP G55

I went out to the SuSE website (Since I'm running SuSE), and their Hardware database says that the HP PSC 700 Series is supported... It also says that the G Series is supported...

Now, does being "Supported" mean that all of the functions are also supported?

i.e. Both of these units have a flat-bed color scanner and color printer...

Are both the printer and scanner supported?

I'm pretty sure that the PSC 750 falls under the PSC 700 Series, but I don't know whether the G55 actually falls under the G Series or not...

Can anyone tell me whether these printers are "fully" supported or not?

One additional question...

I'm going to connect this printer to my network, using an HP JetDirect Print Server...

In other words, this printer will NOT be physically connected to any single PC or System...

Instead, the JetDirect Print Server will have it's own TCP/IP address, and each of the PC's will print to the printer via a network connection...

If these printers are supported under Linux, will they also work, if the printers are defined as Network printers?

I ask, because I had a multi-function printer, that was attached directly to a PC... The drivers loaded and worked fine, from the PC that the printer was attached directly to...

However, the drivers did NOT work, from a remotely connected PC...

Thanks in advance, and have a great holiday...

For all your Linux Printing questions/needs...

All your questions about support will be found there :)
Also, HP has GREAT support for linux, start your search at

After looking at this page I found the following information:

"OfficeJet Printers
A project is underway at hpoj.sourceforge.net to develop Linux support for most HP OfficeJet and LaserJet all-in-one products, including the unique features, such as scanning. "

Hope this helps :) ---
