I am pretty AIX 5.2 is as far as you can go on SP2 due to the PSSP dependency. you will need to check the PSSP documentation and i think 3.5 was the last release and was only certified on AIX 5.2.

hope this helps !

Thanks gbarth for the input.

I will try to dig into that more.

Is there any command or something that i can use as a common method for finding out this?

An old SP2 node more than likely cannot support 5.3.

PSSP 3.5 was the last version, but it isn't PSSP that is the problem. AIX 5.3 and the old archtiecture probably are not compatible. Call IBM and ask.

Good idea kHz!

it is wize to call IBM but i just was asking if there is some command that i run my self to indetify the version that can run on any platform! instead of calling IBM every time!

any idea?

You have a chrp machine here, a winterhawk II, the node will be fine with AIX 5.3.

All chrp machines can run 5.3 and even the firmware updare readme says for level: sx04194
"Added support for AIX 5.3. "

So, obviously, it needs firmware level sx04194 or later to support AIX 5.3.

But as above PSSP may be a problem. you may need CSM instead of PSSP, I don't know.
