I have just bought a 24 port switch from ebay... This switch is very nice, not beat up looking. Anyways, it is supposed to be managable, I cannot seem to connect and find the switch using my laptop. I am using the 3com Network Supervisor, and I have a cat 5 cable going from it to the first port on the switch. It cannot seem to find it. Should I put the network cable in the 26x port, that is all by itself to the right of all of the other ports?

And What software can I use to manage it except Network Supervisor,

Thanks,
Ray Wolfe

First of all, you have to configue the switch with an IP address. You need a serial crossover cable to connect your PCs COM port to the console port on the back of the switch and use something like HyperTerm to get to the configuration menu. There are numerous articles in this forum on the how-to.

Once you setup a correct IP address you can use telnet to connect to the switch over the network (use ping first, to see if the IP connection is ok).

Hope this gets you started. *Rob
