We have a 3com Superstack II 10/100 switch that suddenly this morning died. (The power light went orange/yellow). So I power cycled the switch and nothing. It came up went through the self test a few times then back to the orange/yellow light. So I dig around and read the manual and it tells me nothing more than "If you fail the power test then replace switch". Boy thats a lot of help. So I'm looking around town trying to find a switch so we can get half the office working again and I just happen to power cycle it one last time and it goes through the self test over and over and then suddenly it catches and brings the network back up.
So my questions are as follows:
What do you think caused this? Could any sort of rogue device on the network overload the switch? (Someone was testing an ip phone around the same time)
Could heat be a factor?
Should I look into replacing the switch or have other people hit this glitch before?
Thanks a lot!
