My computer has been taken over by a virus. I have done numerous tests to see if this is the dreaded 'Conflicker' virus, but no dice. It is however a similar virus. Updates are blocked from anything. I can not update Windows, or Windows Defender, or any of the numerous anti-viral programs I have downloaded. There is a lot of network congestion, also. The performance of the machine is now overall very slow. I do not know what to do, it seems like I have tried most everything to fight off this virus, but it's always one step ahead...Does anyone know what this virus sounds like and how it can be stopped?

Thanks....I welcome all and any advice....

Any information needed for any kind of diagnosis, please feel free to ask for it...

first of all, backup anything that you value, then read thread 760-1521235 & follow instructions.

mcdanielk18,

Did DrWeb take care of your troubles? What's your current status?

when everything else failed, this did the job. I have used this on several systems since then, all with positive results. I use this on customers systems as a last resort after backing up any valuable data, where format and reinstall is not an option,

I tried it on one system, but could not get it to run. I need to do some more testing on different computers, I suppose, to narrow down the reason.

If I remember correctly, it booted fine, but when I ran the virus scanner, it would end up just freezing the computer, and doing nothing until I rebooted. Every time did the same thing.

Have you seen such?

I've had times were it wouldn't run completely in gui mode, but would run fine in text mode (or whatever the exact phrase is in the first menu).

though it is SLOW in the scan...

Perhaps I was a little too impatient. [wink]

I'll have to try it again some time. The idea in itself at least seems to be really good.
