I just bought a Super LG DVDR/CDR 8X Combo Drive. I have been successfull burning backups but not data. I use the software that comes with the drive and it will accept the data to be burned, complete successfully but then the HD does not recognize the DVD that was just burned. I reboot the PC and then fine the HD now sees it and the information burned is accessible problem now is that I burned 4 gig of data but only 2 gig is on the disk, what happened to the other 2 gigs? There were no errors after the burn completed. I am thinking of updating the firmware as a last resort, but that means I have to isolate the drive onto it's own IDEE cable as a master. How can you have the drive set as a master if the HD needs to be the Master? If you know why my issue is happening and can suggest a fix in place of updating the firmaware please feel free to answer me back, also where's the cache file?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Having the DVD drive as Secondary master would be preferrable in your case. This would make the Hard Drive and DVD drive use separate channels. It would also require a second IDE cable (cheap) if you don't have one.

Also, with new DVD drives, upgrading your firmware is of great importance, since companies rush to get their product out on the market.

GrowingHaze - Thanks for the advice, Right now I have the DVD Drive on it's own cable as I use it as a cd reader as well, then there is the HD and the floppy and nothing else. Do I have to set the pins in the back of the DVD drive as Master, right now they are set as Slave, also anything I need to do in the BIOS? I am confident doing the work myself but can you walk me thru the exact set up I should have before doing the upgrade, sorry to ask for such newbie steps, thanks.

if the writer is on its own IDE cable then it should be set to master or cable select - master is probably better
