Can anyone help?!?!?!?

We have got a Super DLT drive installed in a stand alone W2K server that does not seem to want to work.
When we try starting a backup using windows backup with a blank tape in the drive we get a message saying the media is write protected – the media is not physically write protected and we have tried different tapes.
We have also tried to “Prepare” the media from within the management console but we get the same message.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

James

Assuming you are using SDLT media it almost sounds like the mechanisim that senses a tape is read only is broken. Can it read tapes OK?

if you have a look in the front of the drive, there is a little switch at the right hand side of the drive. Have a look and make sure this piece is intact. it is plastic, so it should be quite easy to see damage.
