The message is telling you that a possible problem has been detected with your network card. It sometimes appears spuriously when booting, but if it persists, and you are unable to connect to the machine except at the console, you may have to investigate whether the cable is correctly connected, and whether the card is configured correctly. Try a man ifconfig for configuration options. Apologies for the short response - haven't much time to myself at the moment! HTH
I checked that cable with another machine and it works properly. I even removed the card physically and installed again but still the same problem. I also tried to force it 100Mbps network removing autonegotiation on /etc/system but then it does not say cable problem but could not ping. When i try using watch-net it gives loop back successful on autonegotiation but takes long time when forced to 100Mbps.
Is there any file where i can check about the bad network card. Pls help.
Dead right Jimbo. The most problematic pair seem to be Sun systems and Cisco switches. It seams they implemented autonegotiation differently. (which just about means incompatably)
Don't forget to set half or full duplex. This is usually a problem in the network configuration. You want if possible to force both side to full duplex.
These parameters are all configurable on the fly using ndd. If you need help, I can provide some assistance.
