SunFire 480 RSC port

Hi there,

I have a 480 server, whose rsc port i have access to. I can login to the rsc, but i have problems with the ok prompt.
I tried using bootmode -u, poweron, reset, but when i give the console command, the system seems hanged. The hard disks in the server had an OS installed, but that was before i got it.
Thus, i cannot login to the serial port, nor the os by any means. I need to format the drives, and install Solaris 9 from the beginning, but the only access i have is through rsc. The unit comes equipped with a dvdrom drive. I installed the rsc card from another 480 i have, which i know the password of.
Any hints?

It's ok folks,
i got it figured out (by sheer accident!)
I removed the rsc card, guessing that this would restore default communications to the serial port. I powered up from the power button, and was waiting to see if i can get anything through hyper terminal. (8N1 9600) After a minute or so, it started reporting diagnostics (memory, cpu and such). I decided to press Ctrl and Pause/Break. Guess what: i got an ok prompt Then i gave a boot cdrom, and the installation cd started. (Disc 1 of 2)
Now i'm in the process of installation. Thanks to everyone anyway!

by default, I do not think there actually is a password set, even though it asks you for one. I went thru the same situation you went thru a few months back, and as you did removed the card temporarily. there is a procedure and pkg needed to install to get the RSC fully functional so this will not happen again. Just seen the post, so you fixed it before hand.
