We have a Sun Blade 100 (solaris 2.8), it has a dual SCSI dif card, gig network and 1 gb RAM. App is NB 4.5
We're hooking it up to a new STK L80 with 4 Quant SDLT320 drives.

We are experiencing drive failures whenever we run backups with more than one drive at a time. We have had the L80 checked out twice, worked with Veritas and SUN to no avail.

Recently we tried removing NB from the picture by sending TAR jobs to each drive (1 job to each drive at the same time) which appeared to work - averaging 12mb a sec.

We have the latest jumbo patch installed as of April which includes support for SDLT.

Any suggestions as to why the system "drops off" after a few 100mb when multi-plexing ?

If you need more info let me know.

Cheers.

My config was on W2k and an L700, but I found that with the new SDLT320 drives, I had to hang the robot on its own controller. Since you have 2 controllers, try hooking the robot to controller1 and 2 SDLT320 drives to controller2.

Also, be aware that with the SDLT320 drives and hooking 2 up to an HDV controller, you are not leaving much room for additional bandwidth if your drives start doing some compression.

The SDLT320's run at 16mb/sec uncompresses

So, put 2 on a channel and that is 32mb/sec and the HDV card probably only does 40mb/sec, so you can see you have little room if you get NBU and Solaris tuned good and start pushing some data.
