Hi

I have a Sun Ultra 80 W/S running Solaris 8 with the following spec:

4 x 450Mhz Sparc
4gb Ram
1 x Elite 3d gfx
1 x Expert 3d gfx

Problem is that the machine sporadically shuts itself down without warning. Was thinking possibly a cooling issue - any ideas??

Hi Gaz

If it's not due to a hardware fault check that autoshutdown isn't enabled.

The daemon is powerd
The configuration file is power.conf

power.conf may be set to 'autoshutdown' instead of 'noshutdown', you can change this and then run pmconfig to read the power.conf file.

Worth checking.

Thanks for your reply. Have found that it is a cooling issue after all - messages file was flagging thermal warnings and shutting down a few seconds later. Was a recent purchase by my organization so vendor is going to take it back for repairs.

Once again thanks for your help.

Gaz
