Hi

We've just obtained 2 x Sun Solaris Sunfire 280R Servers which have come with Sol8 installed.

When I console onto these I cannot get to the BootPROM with "Ctrl & Break" and I end up at the prompt for my password - I havent actually chosen a password yet.

A: is there a default/factory solaris password (its not blank or password)

B: what is they key sequence for the BootPROM when booting?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Regards

Alan

a: no, no "factoy default password"
b: depending on what you are using, if you have a Sun Kbd hit stop & a, if you are using a terminal (eg Wyse) read the documentation about sending signals (Wyse: F5 and Alt & Pause), this will bring you into OBP ("BIOS") Mode

To reset the OBP to factory defaults: switch of the Sun, hit stop & n on the Kbd (keep pressed!) and switch on the machine, whenever the Sun recognizes your stop/n it writes something like "stop n pressed resetting to factory defaults"; now release stop n

Regards

Hi,

Try Sun or Solaris, If they come from Sun direct, there is no password, ask your vendor.

When your not able to break, it might be that the break sequence is altered or disabled, send a break earlier on the boot process, before the kernel loads, that might help.
