All,

While I was doing the Solaris 8 installation, it ask me where I would like to put the swap file. I am confused with the relationship between swap partition and root partition. Is there a doc which tells me the best practice? In my case, I have a Sun Enterprise 2 with 12 x 4GB hard drives connected to 3 separate controllers.

Thanks,
BMW

the swap file is the equivalent of /tmp on solaris.
Ideally it should be on a separate disk, but not mandatory.
In /, you will find all the OS stuff
/tmp is a temporary work space for the OS (swap) and for the users.
Best practive is to have swap size twice the amount of RAM. Too bad I.T. is not cash business
