Hi,

I just got a sun Enterprise server 220R from a friend. its pre-installed with solaris 10 i believe. i dont have a keyboard hooked up to the server directly, however, i am using a null modem and connecting vi HYPERTERMINAL in windows xp home computer.

The issue i am facing is that as soon as i start the server,
it goes to the 'OK' prompt, where i cant execute any unix commands.

How can i get to #(root) prompt in my server?

i have tried using ctrl+break or ctrl+pause in my keyboard as an equivalent to STOP-A, however that does not work and the OK prompt stays.

Please advise.

thanks,

sam

did you try the command "boot" ?

Hi,

I have tried 'setenv auto-boot? false' and then booted the server again.. but the problem persists- goes back to the OK prompt.

I have also tried 'setenv auto-boot? true and rebooted the server... same issue.

Please advise.

Thanks

Sam

no - I mean try simply to type 'boot'

Some other NVRAM settings you can check are the entry for boot-command and boot-device. As BIS states the default boot command is "boot". Your boot-device should be set to "disk". You can see these entries by entering command printenv at the Ok> prompt.

Hi,

I typed 'boot' command at the 'OK' prompt. it gave following output:

{0} ok boot
Boot device: cdrom File and args:
Can't open boot device

printenv command at the OK prompt gives following ouptup:

boot-device cdrom disk net
boot-command boot boot

Please advise.

Thanks

Sam

Hi,

quick update: i have changed the boot-device to 'disk' by using following command:

OK> setenv boot-device disk

Still, when i hit ctrl+pause or ctrl+break , the #(root)prompt does not come and the OK prompt stays.

Thanks,

Sam
