Sun OS 5.6 startup

Good evening,

I have inherited a box running Sun OS 5.6. The machine has been moved from one network to another one and now, in order to get it onto the new network, I have to login on to the console as root and excute two 'ifconfig plumb' commands.

I suspect that I could automate this if only I knew which file I should amend.

If someone could help me out I would be very grateful.

Make sure there is an /etc/hostname.<interfacename> file present for each network interface, and that the hostnames therein are listed with the correct IP addresses in /etc/hosts, and that the networks those IP addresses belong to are correctly listed in /etc/netmasks.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately there is no file called /etc/hostname.<interface>.
The hosts and netmasks files are in /etc/inet.
But this does me something to go on and investigate.
