I have joined my Unix box (SUN) to my NT domain and can mount the UNIX share on NT boxes. I would like to have the UNIX box replace my NT file server but I can't seem to get the permissions correct. The Unix box is setup to use the NT PDC/BDCs for authentication. When I click on properties --> security (from the NT side) I can add users and groups from the NT domain, but they disappear after I hit OK and go back and look. The samba log displays:
[2002/05/17 08:46:28, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:startsmbfilepwent(171)
startsmbfilepwent_internal: unable to open file /usr/local/samba/private/smbpa
sswd. Error was No such file or directory
[2002/05/17 08:46:28, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.cdb_getsampwrid(1459)
unable to open passdb database.
Is it possible to do what I am trying to do? Do I need to add the NT users to the UNIX password file? I just want Samba to "act" like an NT file server.
Thanks,
Steve
