Hello.
Just hoping some kind soul can point me in the right direction. I'm at a loss.
I am trying to create a VLAN on a EN Summit 200 switch which can connect to the internet.
I am using a WAG320n Cisco router to connect to the internet using ADSL. This router has 4 x gigabit ethernet LAN ports.
I ran a CAT6 solid 24awg straight 568b cable from one of the ports on the router to the front gigabit ethernet port on the switch (port 25).
When the switch was unconfigured, the router took control of assigning IP addresses to the hosts, by recoignising the MAC addresses in its own DHCP reservation list. All devices were able to connect to the internet, basically the switch acted as an extention of the router.
I wanted to create a VLAN using a different network IP range on the switch, to basically break up the network into smaller, more managable chunks. This is when things started to go wrong......
Here is a list of the commands that I used when configuring a VLAN on the switch:
* Summit200-24:10 # create vlan media
* Summit200-24:11 # config vlan default del ports 1-8
* Summit200-24:12 # config vlan media add ports 1-8
* Summit200-24:13 # configure vlan media ipaddress 192.168.2.1 /24
IP interface for VLAN media has been created.
IP address = 192.168.2.1, Netmask = 255.255.255.0.
* Summit200-24:14 # config vlan media dhcp-address-range 192.168.2.2 - 192.168.2.9
* Summit200-24:15 # config rip add vlan all
* Summit200-24:16 # enable ipforwarding
* Summit200-24:17 # config vlan media tag 2
* Summit200-24:18 # config vlan media add port 25 tagged
My understanding is that when you configure an IP address for the VLAN, it creates a virtual router, so VLAN media sits on IP network 192.168.2.x with the virtual router using an IP address of 192.168.2.1. I kept the SNM simple and did not subnet it to /27 or a like.
The physical Cisco router has a LAN IP range 172.16.17.x and the Summit 200 is assigned an IP of 172.16.17.11.
The physical Cisco router is set up for RIP v2, as is the virtual router.
The VLAN "media" does assign hosts an IP address, as you would expect but with regards to connecting to the internet, there is no connectivity.
Can somebody please help!!!
