we have a database of powerstation wise energy billed on monthly. The readings energy meters are entered as past and present and energy calculated. Presently the summary sheet is being prepared by manually entering the fields and hyperlinking the values, which are thus collected from the database.
Sometimes extra cells have to be added in the data base for a fresh month and so the linking gets altered. This has to be manually linked every month and can cause error.
I wish to develop functions so that the loop picks up the label and its value, when the parameters such as, period(month-year), powerstation, and energyExport/Import are supplied

Hi,

Have you considered trying to use a Pivot Table? You did not state what database your data resides in, but chances are, the Pivot Table can be directly linked to your database table and all the summarizing by dates could be very easily and quickly done. I can usually set up a Pivot Table like this in a matter of MINUTES! And you can change the level of summing in SECONDS! Its a VERY POWERFUL tool. :)

Hi sherring,

Another option is to use Excel's "database" functions (=DSUM, =DCOUNTA, etc).

Because these database functions are not well documented by Microsoft, not too many Excel users take advantage of this powerful option.

If you'd like, I can email you example files. But the best way of learning and applying these formulas, would be for you to email me your file - or a scaled-down version if necessary. I'll then modify and return the file.

Hope this can help.
