Sum of shared variables

i need help with summarizing passed shared variable from a sub report.

The sub report is in group footer 2
The passed variable var_1 is a sum of {Field1}from the sub report and it displays correctly in the main report in group footer 2a.

How to I summarize var_1 in the main report in group header1.

I hope I don't cause confusion.

you would need to insert a copy of the subreport in the section above the one in which you want the shared variable to display..

That didn't work.
I found the solution on a search I did:

Is there a way to display the total var in a chart. It isn't showing up in the chart expert.
