Sum of minutes

Hi, I've got a report that shows instances of an occurrences by minute, hours, day - what I'm trying to do is, if there is a group of consecutive minutes, to sum these up, but only if they're consecutive - any ideas on how to do this? I'm trying to avoid cursors if I possibly can!
