Sum formula as parameter

I have a crystal report (version 8.5) that is summing an amount of money.

e.g

Mr Smith
Amount Due Received to date Outstanding
100 50 50
200 175 25
300 225 75

I want to add a search parameter that will only return records that have an outstanding balance.

However I need to use a formula as there is no unique field for outstanding balances and I have discovered SUM fields cannot be used as a search parameter.

Can anybody advice How I can use a SUM formula as a search parameter when you first run the report.

In formula window

sum(outstanding, groupfield) >0
