Sum, Avg calc

i have a form and i am trying to find an average of some figures and the totals but i jsut get an error#, my formula im sure is correct =Sum([field1]), the wierd thing is if i put the calculation on a seperate form it works but if i put it on the form i want it on it does not work can anybody help please?!?!?!?!?

Try:

=sum([fieldName]), where fieldName is the actual name of the field in the table

This should go in the data source.

yeah sorry i didnt explain it very well i am already looking at the datasource

Is field1 the name of the text box? If so, try using the name of the field in your table.

So you have a form bound to your table, let us call the table Table1. You have a field in Table1 called testField (of type Number).

Your form(bound to Table1) has an text box, with this in the control source:

=sum([testField)

That should definately work. It works for me.

i if i put it on a form on its own it works but when i put it on another form with calcs and other bits it fails
