Sum and Totals in Pdf Fillable forms with Adobe/Acrobat Professional

I am a lay person, who is helping out a computer tech who is working with the program for the 1st time. We need to know how to set up a simple calculation with sum and totals.

ie 3 fields 1,1,1 = total 3 It continues to give us error messages.

Please help us.
