If I have a Report grouped first by user and second by account with suppressed details section and group footers for both account and user, I can manage to get sum's for items in the detail fine...But I am having trouble creating a sum of a column that is listed in the account group footer (so it only shows once for the account) and not the detail. Can I Sum the column that is shown in the preview some easy way? Creating a plain old sum field does not bring up the correct data because it discounts the selection criteria.

I am having trouble understanding what you want. Please give me an example of what kind of sum or formula discouns the record selection formula.

Also, please post your record selection formula Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

The rule of summary is that the item be in the detail and that you have grouping. That is why you may be having a problem.

You might use a running total on the field and set the evaluation and resetting only on the change in group. This will only sum once per group.

The item does not have to be in the detail section to be summed. For example the following formula:

sum({SalesAmount},{CustomerID})

Will sum the sales amount by customer, even if {SalesAmount} is not in the detail of the report. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

That is correct if you are doing it via a formula. You can not do via the insert summary command. If the user does not want to use a formula I think his solution is the running total field.
