I'm wondering if you guys can suggest any free or very low cost editing programs? I was into web development a lot a but years ago. Dreamweaver and Frontpage were new (I hadn't used). I did plain 'ole text editing, sometimes used Homesite (I think Allaire had just bought!).

Anyway, my situation now is that I volunteered to maintain the website for my church. Obviously I don't want to shell out a lot of money for this. Especially to Macromedia for something I don't know how to use. My question is, don't they just make it easier for the user to use DHTML techniques? I'm more comfortable working without all the "bells and whistles".

Do you guys recommend any tutorials on doing a site using a free html editor? Maybe some on CSS, and scripting? The site is already done, with a flash intro, I'm just adding to it and replacing info. I can use the style sheets already referrenced, right?

Sorry to be such a pest! Thanks in advance!

Thanks very much Coldfused. I remember CoffeeCup, but I will check out all those links when I get home.

I know there's free stuff out there for adding counters, guestbooks, etc., but I'd rather not go that route. The site is a Christian site, and some of the ads are not very appropriate.

Thanks Kjonnnn.

I will check it out. I plan on working on it a lot Friday and this weekend. I've just been reading up on things and bookmarking all kinds of stuff.

I like your church's page btw (snuck a quick peek from work). Do you maintain it for the church?

Yes I do. I originally did it in Frontpage 2000. But did a complete redo in Dreamweaver MX last month and changed to a different hosting company. Im still learning MX, but like it.

Previously, I had another free guestbook, but I didnt have control over who and what was posted. Sometimes weirdos posted some really nasty things that I couldn't get rid of.

This is guestbook shoots me an email when someone signs, and I can then read, and approve or delete the guestbook entry. And it sends and autoresponse to the poster.
