I am just beginning here and am looking for an online course for beginning php. Free would be nice, but I will pay for the right course. I am hoping somebody can refer me to a place that does not require me to take prerequisite classes, or a place that wants to get me a degree. I am not after these things.

All I want to do is learn how to program and I have decided that php is the language I want to start with. I have a solid foundation in computers (both hardware and software).

I am looking for a place that will offer me a basic programming course (somewhat indepth) and then also offer me another course to continue onto from there. An online course is a must here and something that allows me to work at my own pace. I need to learn this, but I do not need to be rushed or slowed because of a pre-set schedule.

Ideas?

, a good php resource with tutorials for things most useful to your own website.

But do they have courses too? Something that is good quality whether it is paid or not?

Its a great place to start. its free, it will teach you alot.

otherwise, evening classes at your local tech/college/whatever

I appreciate you getting back to me. I am unable to goto my local college as they require the prerequisite classes I wish to avoid. I see no purpose whatsoever in having to take classes that I could ace easily (and still have to pay for) just to learn programming.

Anyway, I will look at the site.

Try this tutorial, it starts a a very basic but will guide you nicely.

You can always post back here if you need help while you learn, or would require someone to provide some small excercise for you to do.

Also while learning the php.net online manual is your friend. Use it often and use it well.
