Suggestions for cloning app server between dissimilar HW? 1

Have a 5.3 box configured as a web server for several custom apps. Need to quickly create a test environment on a p570 LPAR. No time to reinstall middleware & apps.

Can I copy application VG, or LVs within app VG from one server to another?

Am I better off tarring each FS and untarring in an identical new LV on the new LPAR?

Is there a better way to do this?

This should be pretty easy...

- take a mksysb of the original system, restore it to the test system (make sure network cable is unplugged on test system unless you want your original one to get nocked off the network.

- take a savevg from the original system and restore it with restvg to the test system

It would be best to stop all processing on the original system before doing this to ensure data integrity.

Forgot to mention to initiate the mksysb restore from an AIX install CD (or using a NIM server) so the proper drivers will automatically be pulled for the different hardware.
