Suddenly password protection on office files

Hello,

I'm wondering about something weird here.

Some shared office documents(Excel & Word) on the network are suddenly password protected to modify, read only is no problem. The weird thing is that it's "reserved by [name]" the name is of a user who never worked for our company.

Saving it elsewhere as a new file solves this issue but still I wonder how this is possible? Anyone ever seen this issue occur?

This has been reported by a Network Utility that some companies use (but I cannot remember its name or what it does).
