Okay, here's the deal: one of my users (I'm the Sys Admin of a small company) informs me she needs more RAM. I try to oblige her tonight by installing a 512MB stick. It won't fit in the slot, I pull out one of the installed ones, and it becomes glaringly obvious why: wrong type of memory stick. I snap everything back into it's original place, button up the computer, hook everything back on, and fire it up to test it...and the monitor tells me it's not getting a connection. I check all the physical connections and power plugs-- no dice. I swap monitors-- same story. I check to make sure the vid card (Radeon ATI Rage Theater)is seated properly, look for loose connectors on the motherboard (found none), double-checked to make sure the RAM chips were in the right place, and tried again...strike three.
Finally, I managed to put her HD into another machine as yet unused so she can do her work, then put *that* machine's HD into her old machine and test it again-- still not working. I swap out the video card with another, thinking maybe I hosed it up somehow-- still no luck.
If anyone could give me a clue as to what on Earth I may have done wrong or didn't do, I'd be most appreciative.
