suddenly, double-clicking won't open Quark 6 docs

Until today, I could open Quark 6 documents by double-clicking, as usual. Now, for no apparent reason, double-clicking gets no response. I can still open files with the "open" command, but I'd rather double-click as I'm used to. I tried trashing the Quark prefs and restarting, but still no response to double-clicking.

Any advice?
