Sudden issue placing PDFs in publication

Okay, any insight into this problem would be extremely helpful.

Our office produces 3 papers weekly. We do the ads and hand off PDFs to the printer. Generally we make the ads in PM, print them to PS using our specific PPD, then generate PDFs. Once approved the PDFs get 'Placed' into the final pub, we generate one master PDF for each paper and Bob's your uncle.

But suddenly a couple of weeks ago this stopped working the way it has been forever and ever. When we place the PDF and then check the Links Manager, it's asking for each element in each PDF ad.

The short of it is that it'd be a pain in the neck to push and relink everything in this manner. We're trying to get things back to the way they were.

We're getting the "OPI images..." error messages when trying to print out our postscripts.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? By fixing I mean back to working how it was initially, not a workaround (need to be specific on that because another forum I posted to had nothing but workarounds).

Thanks so much for any insight.

Hmmmm... had you updated Distiller prior to this new situation occurring? Or changed the compatibility level of the PDFs (i.e. from 1.3 to 1.4)?

No - nothing's changed that we can put a finger on. We've tried even generating a final PDF with the offending PDFs placed, thinking that maybe it'd work in some weird way - but it won't even generate a postscript file with those PDFs placed in the pub.

Hi, TaraRebeka,

Which version of PM?
Which version of Windows?

> > Generally we make the ads in PM

Using only *.TIFF, *.EPS or *.PSD graphics?

> > print them to PS using our specific PPD, then generate PDFs

Which version of Distiller?
Why do you not use the Distiller PPD?

> > We're getting the "OPI images..." error messages

Can you give the full error message?

If you are absolutely sure the images/PDFs are fine (can you print them from Acrobat?) then you need to check your postcript printer driver, PPD and settings.

We're actually on Macs - OS 9.2.2 and running PM 7.0.1.
