The taskbar clock suddenly has the day of the week appearing below the time in my taskbar, and the taskbar is now about 2 pixels too tall, stretching all the program icons. This remains the same even if I hide the clock. I have tried locking and unlocking the taskbar, and checked out the control panel settings but I can't find a place to hide the day of the week in the clock. Not even sure this setting is the real problem.

I installed a demo of JAWS screen reader earlier today, could it have been caused by this? I have since uninstalled the demo but the problem persists. Its small but niggly!

Hover the mouse over the top edge of the taskbar until it becomes a double arrow. Hold the left mouse button down and shrink the taskbar.

Follow bcastner's advice, but first try growing the taskbar to two rows. Then skrink it back, if you don't like the look.

Thanks for all your ideas. Shrinking the bar snaps it from the current size to none, and doesn't allow me any size in between. Similarly, growing the bar simply grows it to double its size, but doesn't change the size of the bar when shrunk again.

I will try a system restore, and if I get no joy then I'll try the utility you pointed me to bcastner (thanks).

The fact that the day of the week is appearing under the time implies that some annoy-ware has installed itself. As far as I'm aware there is no option in XP to display the day of the week under the time but apologies if I have this wrong as I'm at my Win 2k work machine at the moment.

I'd download all the anti-spyware tools - Ad-Aware, SpyBot Search & Destroy and Hijack This - then run them all to see whether they identify anything.

XP will display the day of the week on the notification tray if the taskbar is double width.

Unlock the taskbar to adjust its size.

Hi

What is shown in the taskbar is linked to the Display Properties - smaller font means more is shown on the taskbar! The clock on the taskbar shows time, day and short date but you can't see most of it. (widen the taskbar to see...)

Question 1: Do you have a Toolbar activated (i.e., QuickLaunch, Desktop, etc)? If YES, Go to 2. If No go to next respondent's answer.

Question 2: If you right click inside the toolbar--but not on an icon--i.e., right next to the border, the top menu item is View. If you expand View, is "Large Icons" checked? If Yes, check "Small Icons" instead. If No go to next respondent's answer.

Good luck.
