Hi there,

I lost my 1700 series cisco password; and tried the usual password recovery procedure. As soon as I Type confreg 0x2142 at the rommon 1; the router displays absolute rubbish. I waited a while and restarted it, it loads cradp like :

2é&ù%ù^^^^^ùù*ù$$$"" etc etc

can anyone help ?

Thanks

did you have the bad rate set to soemthing other then the default on your console?

You mistyped it. One of the configuration register settings changes the baud rate on the console interface. For example, perhaps you typed 0x2124 instead. That would change your console baud rate to 19200.

I can't remember what the valid baud rates are, so you should start out troubleshooting this by setting your terminal emulator to 300 baud. Work your way up to 19200, or even higher, and eventually you'll probably find one the works. Once you get it, set the register to 0x2142 and try password recovery again.

Good luck,
John
