Subtotal formula with Version 7

I know you can subtotal a formula in version 8.X, But I can't seem to do it in version 7.

Can this be accomplished by a formula.

The Formula I am trying to total checks the date.
If Month(date)=1 then qty else 0

Found problem, was using Minimum function in there too.
