Subreports not working in VB/Active Data Field Definitions situation

I'm building reports in a VB application using Active Data for database connectivity.

Problem is that Subreports are not returning data. Even without links. The only way for the subreport to show data is to set up parameters and link to the main report.

Any ideas?
