Hi I am using Business Objects XI.
I will try to trim down the issue so that it makes sense.

I have a Group Footer in that I have two sections

In Section A I have a Shared Var CaseCount
In Section B I have a subreport which will give the Shared Var CaseCount = 25.

How can i get the casecount value as 25 in Section A itself? Is it possible ?

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks in Advance.

You could move the sub report to the Group Header (or any section above GFa).

Cheers
Pete.

Actually that is the problem..we show "State Values" in the GROUP HEADER 1 out of which a few formula are based on "County Values" from the subreport in the Section 2. I was hoping if a workaround is there ...Thanks for the response though..

Not sure I understand enough about the report structure, but could you just swap the position of the sub-report and the formula displaying the variable - ie sub report to GFa and the variable formula to GFb?

If that is not possible, you will need to explain more clearly why.

Cheers
Pete.

I have simplified the report for you. I have around 10 sections in the Group footer and then the first 5 have about atelast 300 of formula which displays state values and then we have in the next sections "County" values in the sub report. THe layout can not be changed as it is per user requirement. Hope I made some sense other wise let me knwo i will try to explain better.

I still don't really understand the report structure. The simple fact is that the value of a variable calculated in a subreport is not available until the section after that where the subreport is located. If you need to use it in a section earlier, you will need to add the subreport to the main report a second time, but in an earlier section.

So as to not impact the overall appearance of the report, suppress all sections of this instance of the subreport, format the subreport to "Supress Blank Subreport" and format the section in the main report where it has been placed to "Hide".

You could probably avoid the necessity of using a second instance of the subreport by using a SQL Expression but this approach is database dependent and very difficult to assist you with remotely.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Pete.

Thank you so much for the reply. SQl expression I have never worked, and that is one thing I would like to learn. Is there any white paper which teach the basics of the SQl Expression.

SQL Expressions are database specific and therefore depend on the data source. Ken Hamady has some very useful resources including one that covers SQL Expressions, available at [link] [/url]. I haven't seen this one but based on the training material I have seen it would be worth the purchase price.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Pete
