Subreport Linking

Hi All,

Have a question on subreport linking, Did this about 3 yrs ago but have a confusion abt something

I have 15 subreports and need to put them in a main report.
I have to pass 5 parameters and my question is do i have to link all 15 reports to these 5 parametrs that I build on main report or just One parameter (on ID) will be ok.

For a small test I linked all subreports to main report via parameter ID and created all other parametrs too. Even if I dont link all the subreports to main report via other 4 parametrs the report is working fine. And even if I link subreports to main reports via all 4 parameters its working fine.

So not sure if I should link 15 subreports to main report via all 5 paramaetrs or just create 5 parameters on main report and link 15 subreports to main report via only 1 parameter . ie ID . I also have main report grouped by ID

It depends upon how you are using the parameters in the subreports, and whether the parameter links are intended to limit the results of the subreports. If the parameters are relevant only to the main report, it is not necessary to recreate them in the subs and link on them. I think you should take a look at the subreports' selection formula to see if the parameter values are necessary to limit the data to what you expect to see.

Sometimes linking parameters to each other is necessary to eliminate multiple instances of the same prompt, but it doesn't sound like that is your issue.

Do you have any suggestion for my .biar file error question , it is in CR 2 Data Access forum and is giving me a hard time
