Hi there,

I need to move over 500 PCs from a single "holding" OU into newly created, site specific OUs.

Each of the destination OUs corresponds to a seperate AD site with it's own unique IP subnet.

Is there any way to add the AD site object IP address attribute to the site OU objects? If so, I can then write a script to ping each of the PCs I need to move, compare the returned IP address with the IP attribute of each site OU and then move the PC to the correct OU.

I'm also open to suggestions of better ways to achieve the same objective.

Cheers,

Q.

I think you answered your own question but are just over thinking it. Help put this into perspective though, how many sites are we talking about?

I think you are spot on for the script but don't see why it would be necessary to try and identify the site by appending IP info to it. Why not just grab the IP and then based on that subnet do the necessary move? Just code the script to know what IP range goes to which OU.

I think my FAQ for login scripts with multiple physical sites will help you. faq329-5908

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for the reply.

You're absolutely right, it'd be much simpler to just lookup a list of sites and subnets within the script; there are only 19 sites. There's no point in over complicating things!

Thanks again,
