Submitting prescriptions

Does anyone have experience with submitting prescriptions to a pharmacy electronically? Would like to provide that functionality to my users - perhaps there's a third party that I can integrate my Access database with?

Have you really thought this through? A lot of, if not all, prescriptions must have a physical paper trail from the prescribing physician to the pharmacy--by federal law. Depending on the DEA classification, a fax might suffice, but not for drugs of abuse.

The mail-order pharmacy I use collects patient/insurance information using Cardiff Teleforms, but there's no getting around that script from the doc with his DEA number and signature.

So even though this might sound like a good idea, it could have little to no value.

plus, depending on your location you would have to account for all the HIPPA regulations.....

Right-o. I've been doing some research and found some mention of regulations and requirements - but no concrete information on how to get "certified" to do this.

Both of you had great insight into HIPPA / paper trails. A client had mentioned this feature and I thought I'd see what my friends at Tek-tips thought. I had originally suggested the fax route - but as lespaul says - anything worth doing is a lot more difficult than it's worth...
