Hi!

I want to eventually list my website in several search engines.

So, I’m looking for free sites where I can send my website to multiple search engines for submission.

Does anyone know of any free sites I can use?

I’ve been looking around, but haven’t found too many good places to do this.

Thanks,
Jenny

There is much to learn about how search engines work. Be prepared for masses of spam mail!

The majority only exist to gather business information to sell on for sales. There are thousands out there, there is no way you would be able to submit to all even with some software. Yes there are ready made scripts (free) and some paying ones. I'd look at and drill down to the site submission scripts.

But you would do well to read some of the great articles out there on site submission and how ranking works. Dont pay for nothing and dont give your details out at this stage!

Most sites now do not rely on meta tags or even on the contents. They rank you on your popularity. The more sites that link to your site the higher up the scale you will go.

Look for sites that will do a reciprocal link with you because your task is to enter your URL in major search engines and count how many sites link to you. The more there are the more the engine will put you to the top - its like survival of the most popular! If a search engine can always have the most popular sites first then punters will come back to that search engine because they know they can get quality sites in the first page.

Never put too many keywords on one page. If you sell widgets for polishing cars have it in your title, briefly in meta tags, mention it in a H tag and only 2 or 3 times in a normal text font. If you go too far the engines will block you as spam.

Submit regularily but not too often! I have never worked this one out. If you repeat submit too much you will be blocked as a spammer, yet they say you should keep submitting regularily. And some sites take 8 weeks to index you anyway so whatever!

When you are ready to submit, never use your main email address. You will get loads of spam for webmaster related stuff plus business sales stuff. If you have boxes to opt out then check them but I do not trust any of the smaller sites. When you submit you havent got a clue where your details are going to the 10, 600 or 10,000 search sites that some places claim to submit you to. As I say, most are just set up to collate information on business so they can sell on to resellers of hardware/software.

I'd suggest just submitting to the big ones and looking for reciprocal links to boost your ranking.
