I was wondering if you could define the use of submenus. I have been through the manuel but it never really describes their use.

I need to have the caller get a greeting, make a selection 1 or 2 that takes them to a coresponding greeting, again 1 or 2 then transfered to an extension.

Does this sound like somethign a submenu would handle?

Sure, but you have to create the submenus first before you can have a selector code reference them.

For instance, you want Auto Attendant No. 1 to answer the incoming call. Caller presses 1, and you want submenu 1 to answer. Caller presses 1 again, and you want submenu 2 to answer. Caller press 1 once again, and you want the call to transfer to Ext. 10.

Start by creating Mailbox 10. Now create Submenu 2, and set Selector Code 1 as Selector Code Transfer to Ext. 10. Record the greeting and save.

Now create Submenu 1, set Selector Code 1 to play Submenu 2, record the greeting and save.

Finally, go to Auto Attendant No. 1, Day or Night Mode, and set Selector Code 1 to play Submenu 1. Record the greeting and save.

A submenu is similar to the main AA greeting in that it directs the caller to transfer to a destination by pressing a digit/digits. The caller can be transferred to an ext, hunt group, calling group, mailbox, another submenu, or an announcement. It uses Selector Codes 1-9, and you can create up to 99 submenus.

That is great info, exactly what I am looking for.

Will the caller be able to select 1 to go to another submenu or 2 to go to a different one?

ie.

From the main menu, press 9 to activate your membership.

Press 1 if you have a dog (then it plays a dog question) or press 2 if you have a cat (then it plays a cat question)

Then those submenus ask a question that will lead to a transfer to an operator, or a statemet saying we can not activate their membership followed by disconnect (would that be an announcement?)

Yes, that will work, except an announcement doesn't have the disconnect option.

For that, you will need to direct them to a Bulletin Board mailbox. Create a mailbox and choose 19 as the Class of Service [COS]. The message you record can be up 4 minutes long.
