Both Yesterday and today, our SharePoint instance decided it wanted to lose all associations with document types. The icons disappeared from the doc library and the option to open or edit in Word or Excel etc disappeared...

We can reset IIS to solve the problem - but has anyone seen this before - and if so, any idea of the cause?

Thanks
Chris

Any ideas?

We really don't want to have to reset IIS daily if we can avoid it

Do you have some service that might be causing this problem? I've never seen this happen before. Is the box a dedicated machine for Sharepoint?

It is very strange. We have 2 other development servers that are setup the exact same way, but are not having the issue.

It is a Win 2003 server dedicate to WSS. We house the database elsewhere on a centralized corporate database server.

We just went to RTM from Beta 2 TR, so I wonder if that messed anything up as it was not happening with B2. Resetting IIS solves the problem, so it seems like something gets erased from SharePoint's cache or metadata that is stored in IIS. But it has now happened 4 times in the last 7 days, so something is not quite right :).

Have you considered disabling RTM and see if WSS will run correctly?
