SubInterface Config on 2524

I want to config an ethernet subinterface (e0.1) that is on the SAME subnet as the actual ethernet interface (e0)

What do I need to specify in the router that would allow me to bind an IP address to a subinterface so I can specify routes using this new virtual interface?

Right now it is telling me I cannot route until the subinterface is designated IE802.0 or vLAN

Any help is appreciated as always
