Problem: Checkboxes not working properly when used in subforms.

Situation: I have a form that contains several subforms. Three have checkboxes. When you try to enter a check in any of the subform
checkboxes, the following message is displayed, "You can't assign a value to this object." "* The object may be a control on a read-only Form.""* The object may be on a form that is open in Design View.""* The value may be too large for this field."

All fields are enabled and not locked both in the Master form and in the Child Form. All tables have Yes/No selected with checkboxes as the display control. All subforms were shifted to Form Viewprior to closing out subform views and selected as Form view on the Master Form.
Additionally, checkboxes on the Master Form are working fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I have no hair left on my body and this nervous twitch moves from my eye to the rest of my face

Is the field type of the check boxes "Yes/No" ?
Look at the Table and make sure.

Thanks for the thought but, alas all the checkboxes in the subforms are assigned Yes/No values on the table and in the lookup assigned as checkboxes. I had to walk away from the problem for a day because I have a big bald spot from all the head-rubbing I am doing.
