I am trying to set permissions on my subfolders so that only authorised personnel can open certain folders. However, I have been unable to do this. Does anyone know if you can set permissions on subfolders or is it limited to the main folders only

You have to change the subfolder to a web in order to take advantage of the security permissions. Select View>Folders. Right click on the folder to bring up the shortcut menu, and then select Convert Web. Please note that anything you want to publish in the new web will need to be published separately (meaning that if you publish the main site, the subweb will not publish with it).

While on the live web site (you MUST be online or the option will be grayed out), select Tools>Security.
