Subdomain

Hi

Here goes, I have a domain say xyz.com
to acces the website on my isp's server I would type

http://www.xyz.com

But I would like to have the domain associated with my adsl ip address so any trafic would come to my computer and not my isp's server

My problem is I'm told I would need to supply a subdomain name so xyz.com
would become

somename.xyz.com

What I wanted to know is to access my site would I and others need to then type

http://www.somename.xyz.com

you will need to set up a dns record (most likely with your ISP) that points

http://www.somename.xyz.com

to your individual IP address. Once that record has propagated you are set. Now people who try to access

http://www.somename.xyz.com

will automatically be sent to port 80 of the ip address that you set up in DNS.
