The "Microsoft Outlook View Control" (ViewCtl) is a bit useless without any events firing when something is selected - I particularly would like to know when an email is highlighted so that I can process the contents of it. Would it be possible to use subclassing to achieve this, or by any other method?

I'm reasonably certain that the latest version of the control has a SelectionChange event. However, large chunks of functionality are disabled if the control is not hosted within an Outlook process

Thanks.

On a separate note, what happens if I create an application using this component but the target machine doesn't have Outlook installed? Do you just get an empty list? (I don't want to uninstall Outlook just to find out!)
