sub pages without extensions as in www.main.com/sub

They have a file in the folder Sub called index.htm or index.html and the browser knows to look for that file when no specific file is given.

Depending on your set-up, you could do this a few ways.

With Apache you can add the following line into a htaccess file if you don't have access to the httpd.conf

DirectoryIndex index.shtml index.html

The pages are called from left to right so you just list the default page to appear on the far left.
