I would like to subnet network of about 70-80 nodes.

I have worked out the addresses of each subnet, my only problem is that I want to implement it somehow.....I heard from someone that it could only be done using a switch. if this is true then I am stuck. If not I need advice on how to go about it.

Can't give you much advice without knowing how things are layed out and what you're trying to do.

Why do you want/need to subnet?

You have 80 devices, are they geographically separated?

How are they now connected? routers? switches? WAN links?

not geographicaly seperated. just a local area network in a school the majority of the machines are in labs but 20 percent of them are staff machines.

now I want to seperate the two machines for security purposes. all machines connect to a DC via ethernet switches & hubs. we use a private class network 192.168.10 and connect to an ISP via a leased line in order to get onto the internet.

any of this help u to assist me???????

If you are using switches you couls always use seperate VLANS. This would help in security and also Broadcast domain breakup.

Note though that a layer three device is required for VLANS to communicate.

thanks all ur postings be quite helpfull
